About this Item
1874. [The Census of Ireland, 1871 - Area, Houses, and Population: Also the Ages, Civil Condition, Occupations, Birthplaces, Religion, and Education of the People. Province of Munster.] Summary Tables and Indexes.] The 1871 census is the first in Ireland to resemble what we would consider a modern census. This report for Munster is incredible in its detail about the population as it stood on the night of the 2nd of April 1871. It breaks down the overall census results by county and in an overall context. (Counties of Kerry, Cork, Waterford, Tipperary, Clare and Limerick) We are shown figures for hospitals, gaols and workhouses, ages of husbands and wives in relation to each other, people's occupations, army and police figures, numbers of foreigners, numbers of people form different provinces, numbers of disabled, religious affiliations, education standards reached, literacy levels, levels of Irish and English, and figures for emigration. All of these categories are broken down in detail, and compared with figures from previous censuses. First edition copy. . . . Seller Inventory # BP0128034
