Item description from seller

Small 8vo, pp [24], 288, 299-310, [2, adverts], [2, longitutinal title [this practice copied in early manuscript beneath], bound in contemporary sheep, rubbed and a little worn to corners, spine chipped at head, lower board with patch of surface worming to the leather else a sound clean and tight copy, FIRST EDITION; a moralistic condemnation of Restoration England viewed through devoutly spiritual, if disallusioned, eyes. An attribution to the obscure 17th Century mystic Thomas Traherne, who had died the previous year to this publication at the age of thirty eight is extremely temuous, though motivated by the discovery since his death of several unpublished works by him. Certainly Jonathan Edwin was indeed the publisher of his poshumous 'Eithics' in the same year. Whoever wrote it, the work is both devotional and in support of the Restoration of the monarchy, despite its strongly moralistic tone. A scarce work in commerce.
