Add to basketFirst edition, first print, with first state dust jacket. Book title, author and publisher name still very bright to spine in unfaded gilt. Black cloth of covers largely clean bar a few marks and faint stains; very presentable. Light rubbing to the corners, which are lightly frayed only. Push to one corner. Spine foot and top of spine rolled. Text block largely clean bar a few small marks and a faint water mark to the bottom edge, near the spine.
Internally very clean and with few marks to the fresh pages, bar an ownership name to the front free endpaper and a number in biro to the paste down endpaper; faint water mark to the foot of the gutter of the final 90 or so pages - see the photo of the spread towards the end of the photo selection; the water stain is not very noticeable. Otherwise, this is a clean example of this landmark novel.
The jacket is the first state jacket, with the top of the author's head in the photo flush with the top edge. Price $3.00 is above the shoulder of the 'R' in 'Catcher' on the in-flap; not price-clipped. Light sunning only to the spine. Chipping and loss to the top edge of the upper panel and the corners; chipping to the top of the spine and spine foot; chipping to the top edge of the lower panel; closed edge tears to the bottom edge of the lower panel. Some water staining to the verso. The upper panel has almost separated from the spine, but is still holding, kept stable by a plastic sleeve.
