Hardback. If these crimes were being investigated today, what would the authorities consider to be the vital clues? How would their profiles describe England's first serial killer and who would they be looking to convict? As the author makes clear in this book, nothing about the Whitechapel murders can be taken at face value. Chapter 1 'The Ripper's World'. Victorian England - a society of striking contrasts and extremes. Chapter 2 'The Murder Casebook'. The leading characters in this dark drama are introduced and the murders are described in unsparing detail. Chapter 3 'Forensic Files'. The forensic evidence including a detailed study of each crime scene - the significance of the missing body parts. Chapter 4 'The Usual Suspects'. The case for and against each of the major suspects and an introduction to a few unfamiliar names. Chapter 5 'The Devil Made Him Do It'. The occult connection and the question of whether the murder sites were chosen because of their supernatural significance. Chapter 6 'The Scotland Yard Files'. Reopening of the Scotland Yard files - what did the police know at the time and who did they favour as a suspect? Chapter 7 'Summing Up: A New Suspect'. The evidence and an unexpected final conclusion. Profusely illustrated + Index. 208pp. 4to. h/back. As New in dw. A fairly heavy book which will require additional postage if shipped overseas.…
