Neatly extracted from a bound volume and expertly mended. Light wear and browning to edge of first few leaves (more so to title leaf). The Glorious Revolution refers to the series of events in Britain that began in 1688 with the invasion of England by the Dutch army, and culminated in the exile of Catholic King James II and the accession to the throne of his Protestant daughter Mary and her Dutch Protestant husband William of Orange. It was a turning point in the redistribution of respective powers held by the Houses of Parliament and the Crown, and established a legacy of Constitutional Monarchy and Parliamentary Democracy that influenced governments around the world. Shortly after his arrival in England, William facilitated an emergency assembly of high-ranking officials known as the Convention Parliament. The Convention quickly confirmed that the British throne should legitimately pass to William and Mary, and they were proclaimed King William III and Queen Mary II on February 13, 1688 (Old Style calendar). Ten days later, William and Mary gave royal assent to this Act, the first statute of their reign, and in doing so recognized the Convention Parliament to be a legitimate Parliament (consisting of a House of Lords and House of Commons) as if it had been summoned according to the usual manner. The Act also reproduced the oath of allegiance and supremacy that was required for all parliamentarians.
