Red cloth with pictorial dustjacket. x, 220p. Dustjacket shows only the lightest signs of wear. Otherwise a clean and tight book in fine condition. Appears almost never opened. This book is not a biography per se, but rather Ffinch's effort to "place Newman's spiritual pilgrimage in the context of the nineteenth-century religious revival and the changing attitudes brought about by the granting of Catholic Emancipation in 1829" in the UK. The narrative ends, not at Newman's death in 1890, but at the restoration of the Catholic hierarchy in the UK in 1852, when Newman preached his famous sermon, "The Second Spring.".
