By the terms of the British North America Act, 1867 (30 & 31 Victoria, Chapter 3; U.K.), which created the Dominion of Canada, healthcare was placed under provincial jurisdiction, and in keeping with the legislation the first medical organizations appeared at the provincial level. It was only after federal incorporation of the Canadian Medical Association by this Act that the provincial associations entered into a closer affiliation with a central organization. The incorporation Act also promoted periodic meetings of the medical profession and publication of scientific findings in a periodical journal which would represent the research of the association (founded the following year as the Canadian Medical Association Journal). The association was entrusted to make its own by-laws and rules, elect officials and members, and hold real and personal property. Seller Inventory # 086
