First edition, first printing, of this collaborative study of the techniques for forecasting the developments of the business cycle. In his study, Geoffrey H. Moore (1914-2000) "assesses the value and limitations of a large number of indicators, and develops a short list of those found to be most useful as a guide to the over-all trend of business in the United States. In addition to its analysis of current business conditions, the material in this volume contributes substantially to our knowledge and understanding of the nature of business cycles of the past" (jacket). Moore's study was undertaken by the National Bureau of Economic Research, where he worked for more than 30 years. Contributors include Solomon Fabricant, Arthur F. Burns, Frank E. Morris, Wesley C. Mitchell, W. A. Beckett, Thor Hultgren, Victor Zarnowitz, Lionel J. Lerner, Gerhard Bry, and Julius Shiskin. Moore, however, contributes the majority of the chapters therein. Volumes I and II contain five loosely inserted articles on business trends from 1960s issues of the New York Times and the Quarterly Review, several of which directly cite Moore and the present work. 2 vols, octavo. Extensive charts and diagrams to the text. Original green cloth, spines lettered and with key rolls in silver. With dust jackets. Minor pencil marks to jacket of vol. II. Very light bumping and rubbing to extremities, slight browning to endpapers, otherwise internally fresh; minor toning, creasing, and nicking to jacket spines and extremities, short closed tear to head of spine of vol. I and foot of rear flap hinge of vol. II, unclipped: a near-fine copy in very good jackets. Seller Inventory # 168953
