About this Item
Dallastype on handmade paper. Image measuring approximately 7" x 11¼" on 17" x 21½" paper. Paper irregularly tanned with some creasing and short edge tears, very good. Text in the bottom corner reads: "Dallastype Proof-Printed on Hand-Made Paper on Hand Press. Duncan C. Dallas, Dallastype Press. Published May 1, 1894. ." A lovely image: the woman atop the pole holds a ribbon reading "Socialization - Solidarity - Humanity," and the banners in the rear read "The Cause of Labour is the Hope of the World"; "Neither Riches nor Poverty"; "Life and Work for All"; and "The Hope of Labour is the True Welfare of All." The dancers hold ribbons saying "Abolition of Privilege"; "The Land for the People"; "Adult Suffrage"; "Eight Hours"; "Leisure for All & A Life Worth Living"; "Employers' Liability"; and "No Starving Children in the Board School." *OCLC* locates a single holding (of two prints) on smaller paper, at the International Institute of Social History. In 2015, Los Angeles-based artist Andrea Bowers recreated the image on a mammoth scale in ink on cardboard; it is on display at London's Tate Modern. Seller Inventory # 562379
