pp.viii, 182 with 12 colour plates. Small 8vo. Hardback. Owner s stamps to ffep. Some spotting to ends and very occ. to contents, occ. light pencil annotations, o/w. contents fine. Cords stretched in a couple of places. Original blind decorated boards and gilt decoration to spine very bright and in thor. vg. condition. Mullens and Swann (1917) wrote the most popular book on the subject for beginners for half a century . This first edition of 1861 was published with colour plates; a new edition appeared the same year with uncoloured plates.
