Item description from seller

Cloth-backed patterned boards, printed paper spine-label. Edition limited to 170 numbered copies. of which this is one of 30 specially bound and printed on paper made by Amatruda of Amalfi. Edith Sichel was a writer and "amateur philanthropist" whose critique of George Gissing in Murray's Magazine in 1888 attracted Gissing's attention (though he didn't take to the title, "Two Philanthropic Novelists: Mr Walter Besant and Mr George Gissing"). The two corresponded frankly between 1889 and 1890; on their meeting he was disturbed by his feelings towards her. Halliwell A122a. Coustillas G13b.
