Bread & Roses Community Music Center and Cooperative was self-described as "An anti-capitalist, collectively run record shop" that was community-owned and -controlled at 1724 20th St, NW in Washington, D.C. formed by members of The Folklore Society of Greater Washington in 1973 as announced in the introductory editorial to this first issue of their cooperative's newsletter asking for aid from readers and community members to help with back taxes to the tune of $10,000. Articles in this issue on newly-elected city council member Hilda Mason, the Washington Free Clinic, removal of tenants and subsequent development of Seaton Street in the Adams Morgan neighborhood, Bonnie Raitt, Margie Adam, Pharaoh Sanders, more.
