Item description from seller

A first edition, first impression of Raymond Williams' fascinating exploration of class, community and belonging in rural South Wales. The first edition, first impression of this work in the publisher's original cloth binding, with the original unclipped dust wrapper. Williams' first published and best-known novel, set in rural South Wales, close to the border with England. An academic, who has left his community in the Black Mountains for a successful career, visits his sick father, who was once a railway signalman. A moving novel exploring the decline of industry in South Wales, as well as concepts of community, belonging and social class. In the publisher's original cloth binding, with the original unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, lovely. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Dust wrapper remains bright, with minor sunning to the spine and rear of the wrap. A little chipping to the upper extremities and to the tail of the spine. Fine.
