About this Item
TP + [iii]-v = Editor's Preface + [vii]-xi = Contents + [[1]-411, Octavo. First Edition. One of Two Theoretical Works - from his "Unfinished Papers"Besides a variety of pamphlets on a large number of topics, the only major work that Bentham polished and released for publication during his lifetime was the Introduction to the Prinicples of Morals and Legislation issued in 1789. However, he did allow two of his more theoretical works to be published after being edited from his "unfinished papers" by his hand-picked editors. This work was prepared for publication and edited by Peregrine Bingham (the other theoretical work, Rationale of Judicial Evidence was edited by John Stuart Mill). As the title states, this book deals with fallacies and outlines a number of types: Fallacies of Authority, of of Danger, of Delay, of Confusion before launching into an exhaustive treatment of the causes of these fallacies. Original boards, stained and well worn around the edges of the spine. With a printed label on the spine: "The Book of Fallacies 12s. Boards". Binding separating before the title page but secure along the upper two inches. Uncut with wide margins. A completely unsophisticated, but authentic contemporary copy. ADDITIONAL PHOTOS AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST. Seller Inventory # 842
