NY: Mockingbird Press, 1973. VG- in stapled wraps, as published. Tiny hint of dampstain to upper front cover. Tuli Kupferberg (1923 2010) was a poet, cartoonist, activist, and founding member of The Fugs, the irreverent 1960s countercultural band blending folk, rock, and radical politics. A key figure in New York s underground literary and music scenes, he published beat-influenced poetry and co-founded Birth magazine, a hub for avant-garde writing. Kupferberg s lyrics and performances with The Fugs skewered authority, war, and social hypocrisy with humor and absurdity. A lifelong anarchist and pacifist, he championed free expression and dissent, leaving behind a body of work that fused political satire, surrealism, and a deep commitment to artistic rebellion. This two-book lot features: Listen to the Mockingbird a brilliant blend of poetry, political wit, and absurdity, showcasing Kupferberg s signature rebellious humor; as well as The Book of the Body an experimental and deeply irreverent exploration of physicality, consciousness, and human absurdity. Both chap books capture the radical energy of the 1960s and 70s underground press movement a must-have for collectors of Beat literature, counterculture artifacts, or those who just like their poetry with a side of anarchy. Rare and hard to find together only one set available!
