Add to basketOriginal black cloth, very good condition. Full color by county with railroads not highlighted. Three small early stains on map, one in Wilkes County, two in Murray County, light browning along vertical folds, small separations at some fold junctions. This is a reduced edition of Bonner's monumental large map of Georgia. This map, as well as the large version, is now very scarce. Published in Milledgeville, which was then the state capitol, though it was engraved by Sherman & Smith in New York. A fine copy of a most important pre-war separate map of Georgia. New counties which appear here which are not on the 1851 issue include Polk, Clinch, Whitfield, and Spalding. OCLC lists other editions of this pocket version of Bonner's map dated 1848, 1849, 1851, 1854 and 1855. This 1853 edition is not listed there, making this likely the first edition (assuming that there was no 1852 issue) to show these four new counties. Also interesting are the changes in the state's railroads. Among other changes, the Brunswick & Florida Railroad across the southern counties of the state appears, while the Ocmulgee & Flint Rail Road which had been shown on previous issues has disappeared.
