Item description from seller

The author of these 275 pages (published as part of the Canadian Confederation Project) is a transplanted Englishman, who came to Canada, with his brother, in 1909. Read more about the Wandering Tattler. Also : Bombycilla garrulus pallidicepts, Leverian Museum, San Blas, Puerto Quadra, Tauisk, oyster catchers, widgeons, and Don Francisco Antonio Mourelle. Pearse has devoted himself to full-time `birding' since 1941. Here he attempts a kind of `bird-count' based on notes from early explorers - think : J. F. Galaup and James Colnett - among many. UNillustrated. Cond : Boards are navy blue with silver gilt lettering at spine. End-papers are (sepia) maps of the west coast of North America - California to Russia. D.J. (now protected in mylar) is white with greeny-blue decoration and black lettering. Cover drawing shows a two-masted sailing ship from the eye of a glaucous gull. Volume is clean and square and crispy collectible in ALL senses. Quote (p. 143) : " There is a reference to `many high poles with some props at the bottom'. which he took to be buoys, but actually would have been poles to carry nets for catching duck; these, or similar ones are later described by ._._._. .' Size: Octavo.
