Beautiful Children. Immportalised By the Masters. With 50 Reproductions in Colour of Famous Paintings wear to corners bumped. It is always my aim, since the exact illustration of photography gives so well the main idea of pictures, to write concerning such pictures, as an aid to the full undertanding of them, the history of their makers and sitters and their relation to the age that bred them, rather than to attempt an aesthetic estimate of their artistry, which can appeal at the best of the few; the more particularly as the few will gain a really true estimate of their artistic value only by close study of the originals. Contents: Concerning the Fleeting Wonder that is Called Childhood. The Coming of the Child into the Kingdom of Art. The Flemish Genius. The Spanish Genius The French Genius. The British Genius.
