First edition. Between 1935 and 1937, Brodovitch photographed several of the leading Russian ballet companies, including the Ballets Russes de Monte Carlo, while they were in New York on their world tours. The contents are divided into eleven segments, one for each ballet performance. On the contents page, Brodovitch introduces each chapter in a typographic style evocative of the dance it describes. Roth 101, p. 110. Parr & Badger, Vol. I, p.240. Quarto. With 104 full-page black and white photographs throughout. Original light brown boards. With dust jacket. Dust jacket toned and splitting to spine, rubbed to corners, unclipped: a very good copy in the rare jacket.
