Item description from seller

[Biography] FIRST EDITION. Octavo (23 x 15cm), pp. 116. Publisher's blue cloth lettered in gilt to spine, top of textblock tinted red, typographic dust-jacket. Loosely inserted in a letter from the author. Illustrative frontispiece of Henry Thomas Mackenzie. Toning and spotting to edges of textblock, light spotting throughout but it is more significant on the endpapers, very light bumping to corners, wearing to dust-jacket. Very good. Loosely inserted is a letter from the author which is addressed to Lodge Canongate Kilwinning which Thomas Mackenzie was an honorary member of. The letter outlines how it was a wish of Mackenzie's widow for those close to him to have a copy of the biography.
