Hardback. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. 379 pages; illustrated by Constance Garland; this is the fourth and concluding book in a series about the Garland and connecting families on their moves West in the 19th C. Garland was a distinguished middle-western writer, recipient of both the Pulitzer Prize and membership in the American Academy. This book chronicles his family's return to the East, with stories of important persons of the day, literary and others, and a partial account of a trip to England with his daughters. Book condition: the top edge is dyed green, the other two edges have darkened somewhat, the bottom edge only very slightly; front cover illustration and the lettering are fresh and have nice color, and cover is quite clean; dj is labeled Grosset & Dunlap ( don't know how this happened?) and is in nice condition except for a circa 2 inch tear in the front panel upper corner.
