About this Item
188 pages. 11 engraved plates. A very handsome book: red cloth w/ bevelled edges, embossed seal in gilt an gilt lettering on front board. Top edge gilt. Pages are uncut and unopened, this copy never read. The gilt lettering and embossed seal remain quite bright. The history of this early American charitible organization, originally created in 1657 and incorporated in 1786, devoted to aiding victims of fires for which Boston in particular was so well known. It counted among its illustrious members Paul Revere. This copy is presented by the Treasurer of the Society in 1955; laid in are letters from the Secretary of the Society to the Treasurer, and then a letter from the Treasurer to the eventual owner who was a professor of history apparently researching one of the Society's members.
