For people in the construction and civil engineering communities who have not yet encountered building information modeling (BIM), Barnes and Davies explain in fairly simple language how it can be applied in practice, beginning with theory and moving to case studies. After an overview they cover how BIM works; incorporating and managing it; design liability and ownership; contracts; and insurance, liability, and risk. The case studies involve a large underground railway station and precast concrete fabricators. A sample COBie (construction operations building information exchange) is also presented and explained. About the Author: Peter Barnes is a Director of Blue Sky ADR Ltd and has been actively involved in the design process, in contracting and in consultancy works in the construction and civil engineering industries for almost 40 years. Peter is a Chartered Conservationist and a member of the Council of the Joint Contracts Tribunal and he has developed a great interest in sustainable building processes and collaborative contract relationships, which led onto the decision to co-author BIM in Principle and Practice. Nigel Davies is a Director of Blue Sky ADR Ltd and both a Chartered Builder and Chartered Surveyor. He has a Masters in the Built Environment and a wide and extensive range of practical and commercial experience.
