Penguin Catalogue No. S5. A third impression of the first UK edition, published as a Penguin Special in October 1938. The book was first published and reprinted in July 1938. A paperback original. Illustrated with 16 pages of monochrome photographic plates and twenty-five original decorations within the text by Kay Ambrose. ***Please note that the front free endpaper has been removed. ***Very good in monochrome illustrated black printed turquoise-blue and white wrappers. Covers have some marks and creasing commensurate with age and handling [see scans]. A small scuff to the top of the spine. Edges of wrappers slightly rubbed and creased. Light reading crease to the spine. Spine slightly darkened. No tears. No inscriptions. Internal pages clean, although the paper has browned. ***220 pages including an Illustrated Glossary of some Common Terms, Bibliography and Index plus a three page publisher's catalogue at the back of the book. 180mm x 110mm. ***'The first complete guide to Ballet and for the price of a theatre programme; its history, its theory, notes on the leading personalities and creators of modern Ballet, studies of individual ballets and of some contemporary dancers, illustrated with sixteen pages of photogravure and decorations by Kay Ambrose.'
