Half leather over green pebbled cloth. Quarto. [xvi] 195pp. With 30 color plates and 18 b/w photogravures. Plates with annotated tissue guards. Top edge gilt. Other edges untrimmed. Bookplate of Burton K. Chance to front paste down. Very good. The chromo-lithograph plates are from photographs taken, and coloured from life, by Mr. A.H. Geyer and reproduced on stone by Messrs. Maclagan and Cumming. Plates in photogravure by T & R Annan of Glasgow;Andrew Maitland Ramsay FRSE LLD was a Scottish ophthalmologist and director of the Glasgow Eye Infirmary. His main work was "Atlas of External Diseases of the Eye", which was one of the finest productions of its kind.the plates illustrate cases Ramsay met with at the Glasgow Eye Infirmary. IBBO Vol. 2 p236Burton K. Chance, a Philadelphia ophthalmologist and medical historian was the author of over 250 publications, including case studies of neoplasms and color blindness. His papers are held at the Historical Medical Library of The College of Physicians of Philadelphia.
