She is also the Program Director of the CAAHEP accredited Athletic Training Program at San Diego State University. She received her PhD in Sports Medicine from the University of Virginia in 1994. Carolyn Peters, MA, ATC, CSCS
Carolyn Peters began her career in strength and conditioning as a Division 1 shot putter and basketball player. After a successful career at San Diego State University, she became a Certified Athletic Trainer and Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. Working as an assistant strength and conditioning coach at SDSU for 3 years gave her the opportunity to work closely with, and instruct, both men’s and women’s varsity and club teams. An abstract of her Master’s thesis, A Comparison of Two Basketball Specific Stretching Programs on Vertical Jumping Ability and Incidence of Injury was published in The Basketball Bulletin. She was selected to participate on an expert panel for the evaluation of United States Marine Corp recruit training in San Diego, where the panel created recommendations for modifying the USMC recruit-training program to reduce military training related injuries. Recently Carolyn instructed approximately 400 firefighters and paramedics on Strength Training and Core Stabilization for Job Performance and Injury Reduction. Currently she is working as a Certified Athletic Trainer at San Diego State University.
