Impressed decorations on front and back covers. Gilt lettering on spine. Charles Farrar Browne (1834-1867) was an American humorist and often wrote under his pen name, Artemus Ward. In this reprinted lecture, Ward talks about early Mormons and travels in the West. Charles Farrar Browne was an American humor writer, better known under his nom de plume, Artemus Ward, which as a character, an illiterate rube with "Yankee common sense", Browne also played in public performances. Though sometimes racist, he is considered to be America's first stand-up comedian.
