8 x 12 1/2", (4)pp; title on front cover with large woodcut (Charlemagne) in red. P. 2 is "Private Presses and their influence on the art of printing" by Alfred W. Pollard; p. 3 is a sample "Type Design" (p.17) from forthcoming issue, p. 4 is a statement about the history & this issue of Ars Typographica by Melbert B. Cary, Jr. followed by this printed in red: "A small number of copies at $2.50 each have been privately printed by the Press of the Woolly Whale in collaboration with the Village Press, where the type was set under the personal supervision of Mr. Goudy. Orders ACCOMPANIED BY CHECKS will be filled, while copies last. This unreasonable but essential request is made because, not being a commercial press, we have no bookkeeper and no means for sending out bills. We are book-makers and not bookkeepers." Central widthwise fold from being mailed in an envelope, slight crimp to left top edge, dusting to fold on p. 4., lower edge shows deckle of paper, which is watermarked: *ARAK W&A*.
