"In this pioneering modern history of Armenia, Christopher Walker traces the hopes and disappointments which proceeded 1915. He looks hard at the role of the great powers, especially Britain, which assumed special responsibilities, but lacked the political will to implement them; and Imperial Russia which controlled the eastern part of Armenia. This highly readable study also relates the Armenians' brave attempt to build up a state of their own in the aftermath of the first world war, amid hopes of restitution nurtured by the glowing but false statements of many world leaders, and ultimately dashed by a Turkish offensive of September 1920. The author concludes with a chapter on events since the Caucasion border was fixed in 1921. The book also contains brief biographies of over 120 leading Armenian political, military and literary figures." We will pack the book in bubble-wrap and ship it in a sturdy box to ensure safe delivery. Seller Inventory # ABH789
