Huebsch issued Sergel's first book, "Arlie Gelston"._____ The original book's jacket (never on this booklet) included supportive blurbs by Sherwood Anderson, Ben Hecht, and Theodore Dreiser. _____ ._____It was a novel set in the mythic "Coon Falls", Iowa and apparently involved a young woman's ummmmmm ."coming-of-age." . _____ We suspect the reviewers were not as warm and embracing as the heroine had proved to be. _____ The publisher then offered 100 free copies of the book to members of the public who promised to provide reviews._____ The 73 who did are printed here, alphabetically, with home towns noted. _____ They run the gamut but several certainly piqued this editor's interest. _____ "Arlie Gelston, the heroine of this novel (if she may be called a heroine) is a girl of weak character, vulgar in her tendencies and ready to stoop to anything to satisfy her desires and cravings." --Rev.
