Netz and Noel recount the extraordinary scholarly and technological effort to recover Archimedes' lost writings from a medieval palimpsest; its erased text revived through multispectral imaging, conservation, and patient decipherment. They trace the manuscript's journey from Byzantium to modern auction rooms, revealing how advanced science and human curiosity combined to restore proofs, diagrams, and arguments that illuminate the mind of antiquity's greatest mathematician. The book celebrates both intellectual archaeology and the endurance of ideas. 9 pages, 305 pages, 42 illustrations. Original gilt lettered cloth, with a dustwrapper. Size: 15.5 x 23 cms.
