159 pages + viii + frontispiece of Claud Strachan Carnegie of Tarrie and 10 plates, with a tipped-in fold-out full color three panel map of the course (OFTEN LACKING). Special Presentation Copy of an unknown limitation, the author has written the following on the second free endpaper: "No.5 To John Hay , with the author's Compliments and many sincere thanks. J. D. Gilruth 10-11-09." Full maroon leather binding with marbled endpapers displaying tooled gilt edge decoration, all page edges gilt. The front and rear covers have tooled decorations as does the spine, that with more ornate gilt embellishments and one raised band, all titling gilt. To further enhance this edition, the 40 pages of original advertisements have not been included, the fold-out map is printed on linen in lieu of the paper map used in the trade edition, and the text appears to have been printed on higher quality paper. One of the earliest club histories, fully documenting the Elliot Golf Links, and where the course was laid-out over Balcathie, the Mains of Kelly and Inverpeffer. Relates the land purchase, dispute and settlement concerning conveyance, the course design and management of the same, etc. Descriptions, records, etc. of the four golf clubs that play over Arbroath golf course in addition to the Arbroath Golf Club. An opportunity for the collecting connoisseur to add a truly rare and important early club history to his library. Donovan & Jerris reference number G8260. Covers protected with Mylar wrap.
