Medium 4to. Contemporary brown buckram, gilt. Some volumes very slightly 'cocked', small gilt name of a former owner, William F. Pumphret, stamped on the foot of each upper cover otherwise a very good plus tight and clean set with the armorial bookplates of George Loch of Drylan on the front pastedowns. O'Donovans work was originally published as a five book set, and later broken down into seven volumes. The original 5 volume set is very scarce. The later original volumes have bound into them new title pages for the set to be broken down into 7 books, if so desired, it was thereafter printed in 7 volumes as here. Printed in Irish with English translation on facing pages. The title continues: from the Earliest Period to the Year 1616. Edited from MSS in the Library of the Royal Irish Academy and of Trinity College Dublin. Seller Inventory # 17160
