About this Item
Ando Shoeki, a liberal intellectual voice of Tokogawa Japan, was largely ignored in his lifetime, despite his outspoken advocacy for the rights and dignity of the common man and his opposition to the feudal rule that suppressed them. The present study, translating and analyzing Shoeki's writings, argues in favour of the historical attention and respect that this hitherto obscure philosopher deserved. Transactions of the Asiatic Society of Japan, Third Series, Vol. 2. Ex-lib with usual marks on endpapers, interior pristine. vi, 340 pp. Size: 22 x 15 cm. Seller Inventory # 002095
