This hard-to-find Edinburgh 1797 first edition of the first volume (only) of John Bell's "Anatomy of the Human Body" is in "fair" condition only, the front board detached but still present. Opens to the title page. A small bookplate has probably been removed from the front pastedown. The book is complete, i-xxxvii, 1-459, appears to be in original binding, but in need of a rebind. Half leather over green marbled boards, but the boards are much rubbed, and a full inch of the fore-edge of the rear board rubbed down to the point that some scalloping carries through to edges of the final 40 pages of the text block, though this erosion does not reach any of the text. Dampstain to fore-edge of said rear board, penetrating to fore-edge of the final 10 pp., though again not impinging any of the text. Small worm hole in text to final 20 pp. Two-inch chunk of the top corner of the dedication page torn away to remove most of a Previous Owner's Name. Some small brown spots to margins of the Preface, evidence of an ancient liquid spill to pp. xxvi-xxvii of the "Contents" section, and some scattered light foxing throughout, though never enough to impede legibility. Not a lovely copy, but still firmly bound save for the front board being detached. And now here reduced from $225. Seller Inventory # 011388
