A Geneve, Chez Barthelemy Chirol, et à Paris, Chez la Veuve Duchesne, 1785. 234 pp. 8vo. Original blind wrappers, spine somewhat defective, a nice uncut copy with ample margins. Conlon, Ouvrages français relatifs à Jean-Jacques Rousseau, 695; INED 2772; L'Illuminismo francese alla Fondazione Feltrinelli, 511. First edition. Analysis of two essays by Rousseau (his famous prize winning Discours from 1750 and the Discours sur l'Origine et les fondemens de l'inégalité) and of several works of Court de Gebelin, particularly his Les Devoirs and his Monde Primitif and in general discussing the question of the origins of man and criticizing the hypothesis of the 'homme sauvage.' The Abbé Legros was member of the Assembly of the Clergy in 1760 and represented the clergy at the Etats-Généraux in 1789. He was also the author of an important critical analysis of the theories of the "Économistes", the physiocrats.
