A NEAR FINE, bright, clean, tight, scholar/collector-worthy copy sans rips/tears, stains, discoloration, etc. Book is enhanced with black-and-white oval portraits of the First Ladies. "Long before the title even existed, America's First Ladies have captivated, enraged, frustrated and inspired their fellow citizens. The thirty-nine First Ladies encountered within these pages were more than merely the wives of Presidents. They negotiated with heads of state; promoted social and environmental concerns (from child labor reform and literarcy to historical preservation); redecorated the White House; and acted as advisors, confidantes, and diplomats." 236 pages.
