Hard Cover. Poor/No Jacket. First Edition. 16mo - over 5¾" - 6¾" tall. 164 page arithmetic book for the elementary student. Contains 8 chapters with several lessons in each chapter. Preface written by author indicates purpose of this book is to"invigorate and develop these faculties, to produce accurate and close discrimination, and, to enable the pupil to acquire a knowledge of the Higher Mathematics with greater ease, ." Also Suggestions to Teachers in preface of book. Chapters include multiplication; division; fractions ; percentages; interest, etc. with remarks, examples, and many exercises in each lesson. Pages yellowed/some foxing; pages fragile; string in spine holds pages; penciling on very few pages; Previous owner name inked on front inside cover. End papers greatly foxed; creases; smudges. Book hinges broken; Front and back boards excised from book; Damp stains, severe foxing, cracking/ warping on boards. edges worn; frayed. Heavy wear and rubbing of entire book. Front board has design of house, leaves, with book title and border. Back board has mutlipication table with illustration of globe, telescope, etc. A fragile book, but rare and vintage quality for the educator or collector of mid 19th century school books.
