Rey bietet in diesem reifen Werk keine trockenen Schilderungen von Besteigungen, er gibt viel mehr. Er umkleidet Berge und Landschaft mit Poesie, ich möchte das Buch als eine Dichtung in Prosa bezeichnen (H. Erler, Vorwort).
