A smart first edition of this historical work on the Hellenistic period, with original unclipped dust wrapper. First edition, second impression, July 1952. First published January 1952. Illustrated with coloured frontispiece, nine plates, one of which is in colour, and a folding map to the rear. Collated complete. A detailed historical work on the Hellenistic period, with reference to the libraries of Old Greece, the libraries of New Greece, the city of Alexandria, the founding of the Museum and the Library, the classification of the material assembled, and the destruction of the Library. Written by Edward Alexander Parsons, an American lawyer and bibliophile. In the original blue cloth binding. Externally, very smart with light shelf wear only. Original unclipped dust wrapper is sound with shelf wear and minor chipping to the extremities. Sunning to the spine and the odd small closed tear. Internally, firmly bound.
