1st printing. Generically INSCRIBED and SIGNED by the author on the title page: "Good Luck with your Life! Jerry Bailey". Minor rubbing (common on dustjacket covers), elsewise a bright, clean, tight, collector-worthy copy sans other flaws. "He is considered the leading rider of his era, one of the greatest jockeys ever to break from the starting gate. He has won every major race there is, and then won it again; set earnings and stakes records and entered the Racing Hall of Fame. But none of it was possible until he beat his demons." ILLUSTRATED in black & white photography with accompanying descriptive captions. "Astonishingly frank, vividly detailed, "Against the Odds" chronicles the making of both a man and a champion: the years of drinking, cruelty, anger, and despair; the moment of truth, with the help of his wife, Suzee; the dramatic rise to the top that was made possible only because of his triumph over alcohol." 232 pages. LF4.
