Included in Trout’s detailed examination of these events are the cavalry engagements at Brandy Station of August 1 and October 11, 1863, the fight at Culpeper Court House of September 13, the fight at Jack’s Shop on September 22, and the so-called “Buckland Races” on October 19. Also addressed is the infantry battle at Bristoe Station on October 14, where Lt. Gen. A. P. Hill’s Corps of the Army of Northern Virginia suffered a severe and embarring defeat, and the Mine Run campaign of November 27-December 2, 1863. These actions are covered in detail here for the first time. Entire section of maps included.
