Anyone who has spent time around small children knows that almost anything can come out of their mouths, to the amusement and potential embarrassment of parents, friends, and family. When kids say what's on their minds, the results are often hilarious: Four-year-old Adam, whose mother is having a large dinner party: "Ow, ow! Mom, I stepped on an old piece of food - again!" Six-year-old Karen, asking how to buy a car: "How do you get it on the counter?" Three-year-old Jared, whose mom asks him what he's been eating: "Nothing! Does it look like chocolate?"
Patti Greenberg Wollman and Merril Feinstein-Feit spent a year collecting these little gems from friends, colleagues, parents of the kids they taught, and over the Internet, and supplied a few from the files of their own kids. Children want to talk about what interests them the most - the world around them - so concerns about siblings, growing up, school, and gender differences are most common.
About the Author: Patti Greenberg Wollman is the director of the Nursery School at Habonim.
