About this Item
Square-ish octavo, 124pp., illustrated by Louie Ewing. A near fine copy in the publisher's yellow cloth, with mild foxing to the edges. In a near fine dust jacket with a mild crease on the front panel, and a small chip on the rear panel. Contents clean and fresh. Johnson is best known as poet (associated both with San Francisco and also the Black Mountain poets), but he had a lifelong love of cooking. This cookbook was one of his early overall publications, published just four years after his first book of poems. Though well-represented in libraries, this cookbook is uncommon in the trade, particuarly in collector's condition. A notable cookbook, dating from the era when Mexican food, while obtainable and even common in some parts of the US, had yet to become essentially our most common shared natural cuisine.
