About this Item
Fine condition 1st Edition/1st Printing hardcover in Very Good condition dust jacket. The first of Dos Passos' District of Columbia trilogy, taking place contemporaneously with Hemingway's For Whom the Bell Tolls and inspired by the 1937 trip Hemingway and Dos Passos made to Spain together, during which the two quarreled and broke apart their friendship. Many critics believe Dos Passos' novel merits the same kind of acclaim Hemingway's novel received. But history was less kind to Dos Passos, mainly because his politics shifted to the right as he aged. This gorgeous 1st is in virtually flawless condition. The dust jacket is not price-clipped and is bright and clean but does have a little rub wear, some stress lines near the edges, some small chips, none of which exceed about 1/4" and a few closed edge tears, the longest of which is about 1.5" (from the top of the back panel). We will ship this collector's treasure in bubble-wrap and a sturdy box to ensure safe delivery. Seller Inventory # ABH845
