The Adventures and Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes, 1892 and 1894. Both first edition first issues. Adventures first issue with 'Miss Violent Hunter' in the last sentence on p.317 and without name to street sign on upper cover, light rubbing to cloth at spine ends and less so fore-edge corners but a bright and tidy copy, with no ownership inscriptions and free from spotting. Memoirs with a prize bookplate to front paste down else exceptionally bright and crisp. Memoirs in a bespoke chemise and quarter morocco slip case. And maybe you also will find in my collection a book that you enjoyed, and it even might have influenced your life.*****The book is a soft cover which I recycle and transform into a limited edition, personalized hardback with leather cover, designed and made by me. First, I prepare the book by embedding cotton cords into the spine. Adding 2 mm wood boards to the front and back. And reinforcing everything with cloth. To make the cover I use grade A, naturally tanned hide, I buy from a tannery in north Spain. It is the same leather Louis Vuitton uses to make his bags, so it is top quality. I do all the processing of the leather myself. First, I design the cover, and for this I used this painting of Sherlock Holmes and his inseparable sidekick Watson. Next, I mix leather inks and screen them on the surface of the leather. The inks are partly absorbed by the skin to create a permanent bond. Finally, I coat the leather with protective solution. The leather gives the image a vintage look and beautiful texture, and it will age nicely with time. Inside the front cover. I can print a personal message or a quote from the book. The book is beautiful. Visually it has a very nice texture, it smells great, and the more you handle it the more beautiful it will become. And it makes a great gift for yourself, or somebody who appreciates books. So if you want one, don t snooze, or you might lose.*****RETURNS: This is a custom-made item, so returns or exchanges are not accepted. But you can contact me if there is any problem with your order. *****COLORS: Since I make each item to order, the color might vary from the pictures. [Detective short stories] FIRST EDITIONS, first issues. Two volumes. Quarto (24 x 17 x 8cm), pp.[4] 317 [3]; pp.[8] 279 [1]. 'Adventures' features the misprint 'Violent Hunter' for 'Violet Hunter' p.317, l.23, and shows no street name on the sign on the front cover. Each volume with numerous in-text engravings by Paget, and a full-page frontispiece to 'Memoirs'. Publisher's cyan and navy cloth, respectively, with gilt and black titles to spines and uppers. All edges gilt, with patterned endpapers. Inside paper joints cracked as often found, otherwise both volumes internally clean.
