1964. First edition thus; combining Adventurtes of an Obscure Victorian (1932) and The Thankless Yearrs (1948). [iv], 227pp. plus a black and white photograph of the author. This is a book of reminscences of a Victorian marine engineer and his travels. The Adventures of an Obscure Victorian was first published in 1932. The author had also written about his experiences in a Glasgow eingineering works, but had not enough material to make it the subject of a book. The author's son later persuadesd him to produce The Thankless Yerars, which embraces the majot part of the Obscure Victorian and incorporates the hitherto unpublished engineer works part. This was published in 1948. For the present volume which incorporates the two works, the chapter in the Obscure Victoian which deals with Finland has been omitted apart from the opening pages. The book is bound in the original blue cloth covered boards with gold titling on the spine and a gold stamped facsimile signature of the author on the front board. The case of the book is in very good condition with some shelf wear on the boards and a little faint staining on the front board. The spine ends are lightly bumped and the spine is slightly cocked. The contents are tight and clean with the stamp from an engineering works on the front fixed endpaper together with a set of initials written in pencil. Slight lean to spine.
