Item description from seller

First edition. Contemporary half brown calf and marbled paper-covered boards, with five raised bands and titles in gilt on red morocco labels to the spine. All edges marbled. With a black and white folding frontispiece. A good copy, the binding square and firm with some bumping and rubbing to the extremities, the leather somewhat faded and scuffed. There are a couple of tiny chips with loss to the title labels on the spine. The contents, cracked but holding to the inner hinges, (the rear secured with tape), some associated loosening to the prelims, are otherwise complete. A line of text has been struck through in black ink with an associated inscription by a previous owner to the fore-edge margin of p. 119, and there are a few foxing spots and light brown stains to the page margins throughout. Scarce. One of the most comprehensive, early regional chronicles of English horse racing. Pick's foundational publication covers every recorded plate, sweepstake, and match at York Racecourse across seventy-seven years. Along with results, it includes the bloodlines, pedigrees, and track records of the most celebrated race-horses of the era. Further details and images for any of the items listed are available on request. All items are catalogued by humans. Lucius Books welcomes direct contact with our customers.…
