Tissue-guarded and titled colour frontispiece by Hans Holbein The Younger showing the famous miniature portrait of Queen Anne of Cleves, who was to become the fourth wife of Henry VIII - based on her beauty that was represented by this miniature, he married her. This miniature portrait has not hitherto (before this book was published in 1927) ever been reproduced in colour. ***Near fine in blue cloth-covered boards with white titles and border decoration to spine and front board. Top edge of text-block stained dark blue (as called for). Fore-edge and bottom edge of text-block rough-cut (also as called for). Off-setting to front and rear free endpapers. Lower front corner of front board slightly bumped. Slight bump to bottom edge of rear board. Head and tail of spine slightly bumped. Boards edges very slightly rubbed. Very light feather touch soft pencil lines marking interesting passages of text - (could very easily be rubbed out). No inscriptions or markings in pen. No foxing. Printed on thick quality paper. Interior pages clean. Spine tight. Boards clean. In a very good indeed light blue dustwrapper decorated with dark blue borders to front panel and spine. Spine of dustwrapper browned. Corners of dustwrapper slightly rubbed with miniscule loss. Edges slightly rubbed and creased and nicked. Head and tail of spine of dustwrapper, creased, rubbed with tiny tears and tiny loss to tail of spine.
