Frontis portrait, additional portraits and illustrations, and 8 maps. Original decorative covers with gilt title and design; gilt titled spine. CONDITON DESCRIPTION: Covers and spine ends are rubbed and with stained lower corner; rear cover spotted. Interior with contemporary inked signature of former owner, pgs 141-142 missing, pg 143 stained; else clean and tight. With clear mylar wrapper. CONTENTS DESCRIPTION: One of the best narratives of a private soldier in the Army of the Potomac. Gerrish, of the famous 20th Maine Infantry, provides vivid details of what he saw and felt during those days of camp, march, bivouac, battlefield and hospital, often in minute detail. It possesses great interest and value; includes comments on Grant, Meade, Hooker, Joshua Chamberlain, and others with whom he came in contact.
